HI

My Norton AV has detected 1 MBR and 1 BOOT RECORD virus after 25 mins of scanning (but not able to delete these virus)...

but pc is quiet ok/no start problem..

is my pc really virus infected?

Thanks!

Probably. Try one of the online scans to confirm.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

How many partitions are being scanned? 25 minutes for notification seems a bit long to wait for notification.
Can you set Norton just to scan boot sectors and see what it says then?

If it is a virus infection you may need to boot to the Recovery Console and fix the boot sector (fixboot) to get rid of the boot sector virus, or use one of the floppy based recovery solutions.

I have this old note, so I don't know if it is current information (especially as I have never used Norton), you can check it out to see if it is applicable to your version.

"Insert NAV2002 CD in your CD-ROM drive, exit the program, Shut off computer, and turn off power for at least one minute. When you restart, enter your BIOS setup, and change your BIOS to check CD-ROM first on boot up. Save changes, reboot. Your NAV2002 CD will now act as an emergency boot disk. Follow simple directions to run a full scan in DOS. It can scan all your files , and ( repair/ remove /ignore) the infected files in DOS (even those normally in use by Windows).
