Since the CM, Presence, CES, etc server are all on Linux, can any of you recommend good books on Linux?

Avaya has made it difficult for customers to do any significant work on their systems using Linux operating system commands, so you don't really need to know anything about Linux to operate an Avaya system. If you just want to learn about Linux, download a free distribution such as CentOS and install it on a practice computer. All the documentation is online, and there are many forums for Linux enthusiasts.

There are a variety of books covering the subject. Knowing Redhat Linux is a definite plus since just about all Avaya products are now on Redhat (or the CentOS derivative). My personal favorites have been most of the books from O'Reilly Press. My favorite for firewalls is actually "Linux Firewalls" from Novell. If you don't want to spend the money glenng3 is correct about the availability of documentation online.

I kind of disagree Avaya have created there own file structures and commands that work on there own apps indside linux , you can search the forum on here for simply linux , there are lots off great stuff from very knowledgeable people ,, usually the maintenance and trouble shooting guides also provide useful linux commands for that specific product , but alas there is no hard and fast Avaya list ....unfortunately
