I am VERY new to MS SQL Server. I've had training with Oracle as a programmer. Now, since I kind of work in a Research and Development shop, I have to work with MS SQL Server 2000. I need to develop and administer a MS SQL Server 2000 database. What one book would you recommend I own?

Here are some of the books I've used. None is really a beginner book but all contain good information.

Inside SQL Server 2000 by Kalen Delaney
(Excellent reference for many aspects of SQL Server administration and development.)

SQL Server 7 Adminstrator's Guide by Ron Talmage
(SQL 2000 version due out July 31.)

The Guru's Guide to Transact-SQL by Ken Henderson.
(Solid book that can help beginner as well as seasoned professional learn T-SQL.)

tlbroadbent,

Thanks for the response, I will check those books out and see which one(s) best meet my needs.

for tlbroadbent,

I wonder what you think of the book 'Learn MS SQL Server 2000 in 24 Hours'?

I've not read it. Terry Broadbent
