Blurry Fonts 3

Hi all,

I´ve just done a clean install of XP Pro on my new laptop, it has a NVidia Geforce FX GO 5600 64MB, I have installed the driver for that which came with the system.

But my fonts are blury..its not all of them, just every other line.

Im not sure if theres a setting in XP to fix this or its a hardware problem..

Any ideas?

Update the video adapter drivers from either the Sony site, or the Nvidia site:

Oh, and see if there is on the Sony site a display or monitor configuration file or driver.

In Display Properties/ Settings, can you increase the Color Quality to 32bit and see if that improves things?

Displays the current color settings for the monitor attached to the video adapter that appears in Display. To use a different color setting, click the arrow, and then click a setting.

To use ClearType for screen fonts (Help and Support article).

Open Display in Control Panel.
On the Appearance tab, click Effects.
In the Effects dialog box, select the Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts check box.
Click ClearType in the list.


To open Display, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
ClearType is ideal for portable computer and other flat screen monitors. ClearType may appear slightly blurry on desktop computer monitors.
Whether you select Standard or ClearType from the list, you must have a video card and monitor that support a color setting of at least 256 colors. Best results are achieved with High color (24-bit) or Highest color (32-bit) support. Click the Settings tab to set Color quality.

bcastner: I downloaded that and installed it, doesn´t seem to have made any difference though. Theres a NVidia options in my display properties, but nothing looks like it will help. Thanks for the link.

linney: I´ve turnt on ClearType and im using Highest 32bit color, the fonts are no clearer, but every other line is still blurred. Thanks for the suggesstion.

I´ll contact sony tech support and see what they say.
If you or anyone else have any more ideas though, please do post them.

This will refresh your code page associations and font information.

Before doing the registry merge, use regedit to export a backup of this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage

Double click the new fuzzy_fonts.reg to merge this with your registry.

Reboot.

Though the "every other line" does sound like a hardware issue.

This is far more likely a hardware issue. Question, if the text is farter apart (like every other line) is every other line still blurry, and if you scroll down a line does the blurry section stay in the same place or follow the text?

I didn´t notice this problem before I had installed a new install of XP Pro, its not exactly every other line, just near abouts. When I scroll the blurry lines change position. It seems to be effecting icons aswell, or that just might be me imagining it with all this blurryness

I haven´t tried bcastners suggestion yet, but I just turnt my resolution down, and the blurry lines appear to have gone.

It might have been the NVidia XP Driver bcastner gave me.

LCD displays nearly always have a fixed refresh rate (60 Hz) and few, if any, resolution options. With the correct driver spend some time making sure the monitor definition file, color depth, screen resolution and refresh rate are not set to something impossible.
