Blurred JPG images in MSIE 6 web pages

I am runing xp PRO SP1 AND using MSIE 6 as default browser. All of a sudden I started getting blurry rendering of JPG files (not GIF or other formats) - but only with on-line web sites, not off-line HTML or of-line JPGs. This occurred in MSIE 6, NS 7.2, and FF 1.0. Saving the pics to file and viewing them with my standby viewer (IrfanView) showed that they were inherently corrupt (as if they had been compressed too much). Why did this happen overnight, and more importantly, how can I correct this situation? Thanks in advance, and let me know if you see a problem in Thanks again. Fallingrock.
