Yesterday as I closed out of a game (Risk 2), a blue screen came up with an error message. It propmted me to update my video driver(nvidea). I proceeded to download and install updated driver, which inturn made my display look all funny. The left and right sides were indented about an inch with black space, and it looks like it got squished in the monitor. Tried to restart and gave the following error:

***stop:0x00000050 (0xE267B1E0, 0x00000000, oxBFA43875, 0x00000001)

***nv4_disp.dll - Address BFA43875 base at BF98000, Date Stamp 3cb22eb5

Everything worked fine until then. Any ideas on how to fix this headache? I backed up all of my data, so I'm open to all/any suggestions. System Restore was disabled, so that is not an option. Thanks.

I can get past the blue screen into everything, i'm not sure if it was safe mode, but i hit f8 and chose one of the options and i got in. i tried to 'rollback' the driver, but it gave me a message saying that there was nothing to roll back to. Maybe due to the system restore being off. is there a way to find out what driver i used to have before this problem and reinstall that one - after disabling the problematic one? Everything(as far as i know) works once i get it booted, but the display is still as i stated above. The rollback was the first thing i tried when this happened. I think i may try to disable the driver, and maybe somehow install an older version if i can figure out where to find one.

After you disable your current faulty driver, XP might have a suitable driver (even your old one) stashed away somewhere. Use the driver update facility to check for a suitable driver to get you going. A fallback position is always Safe Mode and the VGA Display.

As to finding out what driver you had previously, are there any Backups available for you to restore from. Perhaps some of the .log files in the Windows folder (try Setupapi.log) might have a record of the install of drivers. Someone with a similar setup to yours might know what driver you need. And there is always the Nvidia site or Windows Update to look around in.

Well I ended up doing a repair, which seemed to help, which allowed me to rollback to the old driver. I now have a new question which I will post to the forum about the NVidea Desktop Management. Thanks for the suggestions.
