Create an item with item type as Services then your Unit of Measure should show the conversion using your blocks. Here's an example:
UofM Quantity Equivalent
Hours 1 Hours
Day 24 Day
Also make the Quantity decimals to 2 so you can use part of the hour like .50 for half day.
That did help somewhat. But, how do we keep track of how many hours are left to be used by each customer out the the block they purchased? (eg: ABC Company buys 48 hours. They only use 8 hours at one service call. Where would it tell us ABC Company has 40 hours left to use?)
Kim - Are you using the Sales Order processing module? This module has some "fulfillment" functions whereby you can create Sales Orders and "fulfill" them in one or more steps.
This helped somewhat. But, how do we keep track of the hours left for each individual customer out of the particular block they purchased? (eg: ABC Company buys 48 hours. They use 8 hours on Tuesday, which we bill them for. How will it tell me, by quick glance, that they have 40 hours left?)
I think what curtman is suggesting is that you do an Order for the amount of hours the customer purchased. Then, you invoice (and fulfill) as the customer uses hours. Your order will then have a remaining quantity on it.
This only works if you are using the Sales Order Processing module.
