Question for you geniuses of the computer world...

I have xp pro clients who use outlook express for work related communication. But I want to block them from browsing the internet. I remember there used to be a simple fix that allowed them to use email but not IE. I'd rather not use a 3rd party utility if I don't have to.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Joe

How do you connect to the internet? Do you have a proxy server or firewall?

Firewall. And I just remembered how I used to do it, I'd just tell IE to use a proxy server and put in a bogus ip for the proxy settings.

Thanks for the reply

Joe

That'll work, although any user who can figure out the IP address of the firewall can get access by changing his proxy settings back. (Users aren't as clueless as the "good ol' days.) You should be able to allow or disallow access to the internet to either specific IP addresses or user IDs by changing your rules on the firewall.

Block port 80 from a specific subnetrange. Make you subnet Range the people that you don't want to get out on the internet.

Check Thread96-836209, if you don't have domain, configure on local policy.
