I had a customer call and say that someone called their operator and said they were from Verizon and that they were checking the lines and asked to be transfered to #90, I think. Obviously someone was trying to get a dial tone to call some foriegn nation. Are there ways to block this? I believe I read somewhere that there are some security issues in the Merlin. If anyone can provide me info on blocking these flaws I would appreciate it.

Restrict trunk to trunk transfers, instruct to never transfer to the internal modem unless by YOU, administer the disallowed lists to suit your preferences, run a call recording system and LOOK AT THE RECORDS, check phone bills every month. You'd be amazed, (maybe) how many folks just happily transfer a stranger to the internal modem. The Legend / Magix Programming CD has a bunch more detail, but this will go a long way. NO system can protect against toll fraud totally, if onsite people are willing to beat the system. TipHelp@charter.net

You can also change the default SPM remote password to increase security. I ditto everything Pep says.

BUT, if you change the SPM password, tell the owner, and only the owner. Had a customer whose password got changed and tried to bribe their boss. (Job security)
