I want to block the Utorrent port range (for my router)when it is set to random so son will not download...
or I will configure the host file and permissions to block the program and loop it to local host

Kids are getting smarter and smarter....lol

hey if there is a software alternative to block him on his computer I am open to that too....preferably freeware

currently I have to listen to him complaining all his internet is blocked

I think if you disable uPnp on the router it should take care of this. Don't know if you need this feature for anything else. Is the computer running XP Pro? If so you could create a group policy to block the program.

Open up Group Policy Editor (Start> Run> gpedit.msc) and Navigate to...

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System

Find the policy "Don't run specified Windows applications", enable the policy and click Show by List of disallowed applications. Add the name of the executable. You will need to know the specific executable name.

If your kid is smart enough he could rename the executable and continue to use the program. To combat this you could use a Software Restriction Policy. This hashes the executable, so it will prevent it from being ran even if it is renamed. These links should help you set up a Software Restriction policy.

As I said the policies will only work if you are running XP Pro, so I may have just gave you a bunch of useless information. :)

Alternatively, un-install the program and give your kid a limited user account so he can't install it again.

Hope one of these solutions will help you out.

so son will not download...
or I will...

I fixed all the internet problems with my daughter (chat room drama, etc.)

I took away her 'net.

Hi,
Might work, If:
She has :
no friends with 'net access.
no library card
no cell phone that is net enabled..

So, I feel than Education and Trust is better,
but being realistic is also good..They will find a way and will experiment..That's part of growing up.

Yeah, but your less likely to get your door kicked in if they are downloading at a friends house !

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.
