I am trying to run Blinker 4.1 to link a Clipper 5.2d program and I get the following error:

The system can not find the file user.

I do not get this error when running blinker on Win 98 or Windows XP.

I'm not sure about that problem but would it not be a good idea to update to Clipper 5.2e as I think there were some bug fixes it it.

I don't think the compiler is the problem. I have been using Clipper 5.2d since it was issued and have had no problems. It is the Blinker that is giving me a problem. Something in 2000 works differently than Win98 or XP. There is no way to upgrade to 5.2e anyway.

I've been using Clipper 5.2e and Blinker 3.3 since ice-age, on anything including W2K and WinXP. I do notice some performance problems, but not unexplainable errors eventually accountable to Blinker.
I have read here (tek-tips) before that Blinker from 6.x up should run perfectly on W2K and the last WinXP issues should be fixed in Blinker 7. Can't confirm as I don't want to spend the money on the upgrade, switching to xHarbour ;-)

As Ian (sort of) said, Clipper 5.2e is the only *working* Clipper around. s-)

"There is no way to upgrade to 5.2e"

No?

Just download the patch files from the CA website and you are able to upgrade for free....

Rob.

Perhaps you can show us the linkscript you're using...

Rob.

I will post the link script later but I get that error just running Blinker on a single obj file with no special libraries included. Just using Blinker fi myprogram causes it to issue the error "System can not find the file user".

I have ordered the upgrade to Blinker 7.0 hoping that will fix the problem.

Thanks for the link to the clipper 5.2e upgrade.

I realize this is probably too little too late but...

I've been successfully using Blinker 4.1 with Windows XP for a couple of months now. I'm assuming that you are running Clipper and Blinker in a DOS/4NT window as I am in which case you simply need to insure that path information and other necessary environment variables are set up properly when you open the DOS window. This process was not automatically carried over from my WinMe machine when I upgraded to XP. I had to do a little tweaking of batch files, etc. to insure that the compile/link environment was as it should be. Once that was done all has worked perfectly.

Hope this helps.

I upgraded to Blinker 7.0 and everything works as before. I no longer get the "The system can not find the file user" error.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread!
