Blank Screen When turn machine on

every once in a while when i turn my windows 98 machine on right away it goes to a black screen. I can here the drive running and the operating system booting but no display.I tried replacing the video card but that didnt seem to help any. any thoughts

do you get anyout put at all when this happens ? next time it occurs press the num lock key if the LED goes on and off then your PC seems to have booted correctly ( i.e. the processor is doing something), if this is the case then you have a video issue, card,card slot or monitor.

If you have no num lock then it could be pointing to a motherboard,PSU or processor issue.
