I know it's been pounded to death on this board but...

I applied the patch from MS the other day and there are three options to chose from for the registry key you create. I entered:

1 for do not deliver ndr's

but there is also:

10 do not generate ndr's

and:

100 don't deliver ndr's if smtp address is missing.

I perused the archived threads on the topic but haven't seen what others did. I am wondering what other patch users entered and how it's worked for them?

This patch from MS never worked for me. So I got a spam filter and all is well.

It worked for me for 2 years now. Just make sure your store file is up to version 5.5.2658.3. You can check this by telneting thru port 25.

it seems to be working, i haven't seen the <> since i applied the patch. i'd normally have 6 or 7 sitting in the outbound queue.

dennisbbb, what registry key did you use and what's that whole store file thingy you're talking about? could you elaborate a little.

The <> queue you see in IMS queue window are actually NDR going back to the spammers.

Check the version of these files by right clicking it and select properties. You will see if the patch is installed the version should be up to 5.5.2658.3. Or you can simply telnet 25 to your IMS.

Here is a paste of the registry setting.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIMC\Parameters
4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
5. Type SuppressNDROptions, and then press ENTER.
6. On the Edit menu, click Modify, and then use one of the following methods, depending on your situation:
* To enable this feature so that the Internet Mail Service does not deliver NDRs, type 1 in the Value data box.
* To enable the feature so that the Internet Mail Service does not generate NDRs, type 10 in the Value data box.
* To enable the feature so that the Internet Mail Service does not deliver any reports if an SMTP address is missing in the return address of the message, type 100 in the Value data box. This means that reports including delivery reports, read receipts, or NDRs are not delivered to the sender.

Note If the SuppressNDROptions registry entry is either not present or if the registry entry is set to 0 (zero), the feature is not used.
7. Quit Registry Editor.

Hi dennisbbb,

Yeah, I'd already done all that except check the file versions. I was really kinda wondering what the effect of each registry value was and peoples results using the 1, 10 or 100.

I used 1 and it seems to have stopped the <>'s from showing up in the outbound queue.
