Greetings all,

Could anyone recommend a good source for a realtime blackhole DNS server? I am looking into spam blocking solutions for my network and am inclined to go this route. Software solutions seem to be limited in their function. I did a search on this issue and came up with many servers, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

A Blackhole DNS server is a name server that is used to identify spam senders. It keeps a list of known spammer domains, and host names too I imagine. When an email comes in, it's supposed to check it against it's information to see if it comes from a known spam source. You use name servers on your network every time you type something like and it resolves it to IP.

So you use software of some kind? Right now I'm running Redhat for my external DNS and Win2k for internal...Which side would it go on?

If I understand correctly, you have to configure your mail server to perform a reverse lookup query on one of those servers. The URL a couple of posts up lists many of these servers, some are free to use, some are not. I was looking for advice on which to pick.
