A user bought there pc in today with following problem

They installed msn 6.1 and after that any cd rom used in the pc would not run or be detected.
They un-installed msn to see if the issue would be solved, but it did not.
They bought it in and as a fix i unistalled the cd rom and re-installed it in device manager.
The cd's that did not work in the pc were tested on pc's here and they wokred fine. I tried some cd's that we have here on the pc and they worked fined.
What i did was to create copies of the cd's that has the users course work on.
All fine untill 10 minutes ago when i got a call from the user how installed msn 6.1 again. Now the copy cd's are not being detected.
Also any cd not ever used in the pc works but not any that have been play on the pc int he past!
i am totally stunned surely the pc does not keeep a track or cache of cd's used.
any ideas?

Are they downloading the version of MSN that is for their OS?
