I am running an AMD XP1600+ chip on a K7S5A Elite M'board, but the bios is only registering and Athlon running at 1000mhz. Any ideas how I can fix this problem

set your jumpers to see the true nature of that cpu if it does not have the abilty update the bios if it is not updated other wise that mb does not support it

Had a similar problem. Too much heat sink grease was shorting the open connectors on the top of the cpu chip. Turn everything off, remove cpu fan, clean gunk off and then put only a tiny dab just to cover the small square in center of cpu which makes contact with the cpu fan heatsink. Fixed mine perfectly. Time flies when you don't know what you're doing...

HI

According to the MB manufacturers website ( the Athlon XP is only supported on Bios revision 1.1/3.1A of the K7S5A .If your BIOS is 1.0 or 1.0A you may need to update it.
