Dear All,

I was trying to install the recommended solaris 9 patch cluster on my system and did it also.But after booting the system I am seeing Bind 8.2.1 i.e the earlier version is running not the installed one (9.2.1). This happen only after this patch installation ...

While doing the thorough check , I found out that original named -v gives as BIND 9.2.2 running but on syslog it shows bind 8.2.1 is running ...

After this I did
# ndc stop

and then
# /usr/local/sbin/named -c /etc/named.conf

And when checked the /var/log/syslog it shows :-
Starting bind 9.2.2 -c /etc/named.conf
command channel listening on 127.0.0.1#953

BUT WHEN I am rebooting it then once again it shows the old version running...

WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM ...ANy help soon...

With best regards,
Withu

Check your startup script. In FreeBSD it is in /etc/rc.conf. If you are using the default then it is probably pointing to the /usr/bin/named instead of the /usr/local/sbin/named. You can rename the one in /usr/bin/named and then do a link to the appropriate one in /usr/local/sbin.

dear jreid,

I don't have /etc/rc.conf file

Can I delete the named in /usr/bin and then copy the existing named in /usr/local/sbin to /usr/bin...

And then restart the services again....

Hope to hear from u

dear jreid,

No the problem remais as it is and after rebooting once again it is running the old version of bind and the messege in /var/log/syslog says :-

daemon error : rpcbind terminating on signal
daemon error /etc/named.conf:3:syntax error near allow

I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT SAYS.....:(

MY NAMED.CONF FILE IS SIMPLE BUT NO IDEA WHY THIS HAPPENING
st% more named.conf

include "/etc/rndc.key";
controls {
inet 127.0.0.1 allow {127.0.0.1;} keys
{ "rndc-key";};
};
options {

};
zone "." {

file "named.ca";
};
zone "xxxxx.xxx.xx"{
type master;
file "xxx.zone";
};
zone "0.0.127.in-addr.arpa."{
