Hello,

I have two domains, one is hosted by a comercial DNS server and webserver, I would like to use my local BIND 9 box which is registered as the DNS server for my second domain to forward all traffic to the commercial domain server. I cannot do this as an IP address or the commercial webserver will not resolve the request to the correct "Virtual Server". I'm not sure what I need to do in BIND, if someone could please point me in the right direction or give me some advice please.

What I am hoping to get is when someone visits the second domain name they get forwarded onto the first domain, I would like the URL to be masked so they appear to be at the first domain. If I need to do this with the help of Apache then so be it.

This type of redirection needs to be done on the web server, not the DNS server. DNS only resolves IP address and domain names, it does not forward web requests to the correct virtual server or 'mask' the domain name.

The usual way to do this is to set up a web page for the second domain that redirects to the first domain page, or, just set up the virtuals on the web server to serve both domains from the same virtual server.

Chris.

Hi, Chris thanks for the reply, this is the way I've solved the problem, I now have a web page for the second domain that loads the first domain in a frame. Works well enough for me... Now I just have to figure out how to update my dynamic IP address in the zone file!
