i uploaded a .cgi into hypermart server, it worked fine. they recently revamped their site, and when i went into the server to modify the script, it doesn't work now when ran. their site says that often, when you upload it defaults to binary and some scripts might not work...it also says that i should ftp them in asc.

so, the ? is, where can i get a free ftp client and can anyone explain the diff. between binary/ascii, and how to upload in asc.

thanks...

Download smartFTP. Go to download.com and you can search for it there.

Then, when you are about to upload something, make sure that the [auto] button is checked and it will automatically find out how the file should be uploaded.

If you want, smartFTP also has the option to upload in ASCII, just click that button.

You can also get CuteFTP (probably the most popular, but costs $$). Little more user friendly, but you only get a 30 day user period whereas with SmartFTP, you can use it for free.

Hope this helps,

good replies to this one! i can't believe how easy smartftp was to use, and how easy it makes things...before this, i was uploading one at a time, and each one took 1 minute each..!
