Hi,

We have a DDS tape drive that currently uses DDS4 150m 20/40GB tapes. The tapes are now completely full. How can I find out the biggest tapes that will work with this drive?

Thanks in advance.

AFAIK that's your lot with standard DDS 4 drives. Happy to be proved wrong, but when we reached that limit too often, we bought an Iomega rev drive which will do up to 90GB. Have to say it's one of the best purchases we've made - I still prefer something I can take off-site than a large-scale storage solution.

yep thats your lot....could always trade it in for a dds5

dds5 drive will also read dds4 tapes ;-)

Thanks stussy and birky, I guess I'll have to ask those in charge of the purse strings for a new drive!!

Have a star each for your quick response and useful info.

thanks for that :-)

roughly about £500 for a dds5 drive which would give you 36/72 Gb...you may be able to get a buy back on your dds4.

I think DDS will always go back. I have used DDS3 in a DDS4 drive.
