I have a Duron 800 , and an Asus SocketA motherboard.

this is the problem, on the socket area, you notice there are plastic clip on the end, where you attach the heatsink, and clip on, so he heatsink stays in place, well the clip towards the back of the socket has snaped off (just the little peice of plastic) , unfortunatly this little peice snaping off, makes me unable to put any heatsink on it, thus I do not want to run my computer without a headsink (since the hardware monitor has shown it getting around 117-124 with a heatsink)

so my question is, what can I do to fix this, I notice that the socket , has 4 more clips, on each corner of the socket area, but I do not know if they can be used for heatsinks, let alone if any will use those side clips.

Please offer sugestions, I do not want to replace a motherboard, just because a plastic peice fell off. Karl

Some have had luck with different glue types. Wellbond (the metal to metal stuff for automotive use) does work, however it tends to be permanent!
Depending on how you situate your tower/case, you may be able to get away with just a little thermal paste.
Alternatively, heat up a paper clip or small pin and push it into the plastic where the clip broke off, let cool well, then snip off the clip so just enough is sticking out to snap the heat sink on. Cheers,

unfortunatly the clip snaped off the end, that the processor is closest to the edge, not the end that says the socket number on it, that has alot of plastic to use. Karl
