I have just built a new computer. And for some reason after installing Win XP Pro I can't boot to windows without having the disk in the cd rom drive. Everthing is set to boot from ide 0 but it insits of booting from the CD. I put the cd in the drive and I don't press anything when it says press any key to boot from cd and then it boots to the OS. If disk is not in cd drive then it keeps looking for the disk.

Change in BIOS your default boot order for CD to your hard disk drive.

While in the BIOS, see if there is an option for virus protection or boot sector antivirus protection or something similar. Disable this. This prevents a write to the MBR.

Then boot from the CD, select the first R(epair) option to go to the Recovery Console, and type:

fixmbr

Thanks guys but it was a lot more simple than that. The ide cable to the hard drive was not seated all the way. Thanks for the help.
