Buying a new XP computer could be much more expensive than you might have realized, Office 97 professional is rejected with the message [ No licence on this machine ] if you have to have it to work you can upgrade to Office XP for £250 without VAT, the drawback is that this software will not be ready until May 2002.

Jim, agreed that an XP environment stops you from using software that you have already bought. As you have to pay something anyway, consider upgrading to Office 2000 which works perfectly.

I had no problem with Office '97 upgrade to MS Works that originally allowed me to use the Office '95 upgrade that wnet to Office '97 upgrade. Office looks for the product to upgrade so I installed Works from the CD that came with my original Pentium 75Mz and then upgraded to Office. Compare Code (Text)

Since my post I have found out that their is an isue with the xp system and Office 97 Professional, this is caused by a font, Microsoft had me find a file called hatten.tff, the rename it as hatten.old (press enter) restart my PC and reinstall Offfice after 2-3 trys It worked fine

Hope this helps someone
