Best Way to Update a Table

Are triggers or jobs quicker?
Apples and oranges. When you say "updating tables", do you mean from an input file? How large is this file? In what format (i.e. fixed-length, pipe-delimited, Excel)? Or are you pulling from a non-file data source (which is suggested by your mention of the Transoft driver)?
