Hi all,

I have two servers one new and one old.
The old server is in production and must run as long as possible.
The new server is supposed to replace the old server.
What is the best way to syncronize these two server so that the new server can the same time as the old server is powered down? Subscribe? Restore from tape?

There will be some downtime while you switch over.

I'd recommend the following.

Stop the old SQL Server.
Start the service in single user mode. (This will stop anyone but you from connecting).
backup all the databases
stop the old server
restore the databases to the new server
swing everything over to the new server.
