Best way to migrate to different hardware

I need to move my NW4.11 OS from 1 server to another. I dot not want to move hardware, just the OS & ALL settings. What is the best way to do this? Reinstall NW 4.11 on the new server, and duplicate the old server's software/OS settings? Or name the new server something totally different & set it up AS a new server in the Tree.

Also, this particular server is the NDS master for 2 other servers (NW5.0 for both). What is the best way to configure the NDS in this situation? Should I promote another server to master? What setup would work best in this situation?

When doing a changeover such as this, it is best to use the old settings and not rename anything at this time. That way, if something doesn't work, you know the problem is in the restoration and not in the changes you made - much simplier. What I have done in the past is setup and test the new server HW. That is, install the drive(s), format and test them, setup the partitions, install the DOS files, connect peripherals, then test everything. Next, I install a 'bare'copy of the O/S, then do a restore from tape (or disk).

Also, after the new server is up and running, put a R/W of the partition on the server and then promote it to master. The old server will then be a R/W and you can then follow the Novell procedures to remove the replica and DS from the server, including removal from the replica ring, and take the server down. It's alot easier to rename a server in NW 4.x than in NW 5.x.

Thank you for your help. I do have 1 more question.
I'm very unfamiliar with Novell licensing, although I do have a licensing diskette (assuming the diskette itself is still sound) I'm unsure how to move the licenses over from 1 server to another once I have it setup.
