like micker said, messing with the registry is not for the faint-hearted nor for the common user. you must know EXACTLY what you're doing before changing anything cuz you might end up re-installing everything so backing it up is also strongly suggested. tho REGEDIT is built-in from Windows, there are more powerful yet free registry editor that can be found out there. googleing will give you great results.

can you be more specific?
and good info is given by others here concerning editing the Registry....there's alot of ways to do things besides editing the registry, to fix problems. So more specifics will help us all to help you, and narrow in on the problem, so advice we give from our collective experience can maybe stop the problem.

Backup All Important Data/Docs
(this is an older tool and does NOT fix all or backup, but basically cleans out old entries left over from a partial uninstall) and has limited cleaning abilities compared to newer other registry cleaners. Depending on the software you're running - such as an older Netscape Browser - using the tool I do, can even cause problems, so you need to consult all here or elsewhere beforehand, especially if you have little or none experience installing, repairing, editing, troubleshooting. That's why we're here
