I have a WINS record that keeps reappearing in my WINS database even though the machine is no longer on the network and I've deleted the record many times.

This is my WINS configuration:

1. Primary WINS server #1 AAA.xxx.xxx.xxx (Push/pulls with Secondary)
2. Primary WINS server #2 BBB.xxx.xxx.xxx (Push/pulls with Secondary)
3. Secondary WINS server AAA.xxx.xxx.xxx. (this server is on the same subnet as Primary #1 and Push/pulls with both Primary #1 & 2).

The rogue address is registering with Primary #2. I've deleted and tombstoned this record on the registering WINS server (Primary #2) several times but it keeps reappearing as a Domain within Network Neighborhood. I don't get a response when I ping the IP address.

Am I doing something wrong or could this PC be coming on the network (hence the new WINS record) and then being disconnected?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Try tombstoning it on all WINS servers at the same time. Chances are it's just being replicated back from the other servers after you delete it. [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K
