I'd like to get some opinions from those who have installed wired routers with PPPoE connections. What is the best brand and why? What is the easiest to set up? I've had some bad experiences with Linksys so I want to find one that's better.

The most flexibility without paying big $$ for Cisco is the Xyxel. But this may have more features than you need.

I have had no problems with the Linksys BEFSR41 after making the recent firmware upgrades over the last six months. I know some of the firmware releases had serious issues, but they always get resolved in the end, and you can always back-grade the router if a new firmware does not work out.

There is a good reason the Linksys BEF* series routers hold a very commanding lead in the market for SOHO routers, you cannot beat them at their price points. Now that Linksys is owned by Cisco I would expect only very good things from them, and an increase in the quality of support.

Some people like D-Link, I have not had enough experience with them to say. SMC and Belkin are out as far as I am concerned. 3Com, IBM, HP and Dell all do a very decent job. The Orinoco line is exccellent.
