I'm sure this has been addressed, but I've done some keyword searches and I'm not finding this. Sorry for repeat.

I'd like to buy some manuals and guides for Crystal 10.

What are the best manuals, guides, etc for Crystal 10? I'm looking for formulas, techniques, etc in both reference (meaning look in the index) and user guide style (meaning just read and see what it can do). I'd buy multiple guides if necessary.

And, just curious, I think we will convert to XI in the next year or so - will that be a whole new learning curve and conversion process or will that be pretty intuitive?

Thanks in advance.

I use CR10 and I was advised I should get the below book by the person who delivered my CR training

Mastering Crystal Reports 9 by Cate McCoy and Gord Maric. I have found this to be useful both as a work through book (which I did from cover to cover) and also a reference to look back at the index when I want to know how to do something particular. Allthough the book is for v9 I have not had any major issues with lots of missing functions or features, and the menus appear to be pretty similar in 10 as in 9.

I can't comment on how different v11 is from 10 unfortunately as have never used v11.

I would second lbass' suggestion about the George Peck books. I've been using them since v7 and they're great.

Reports created in v9,v10,vXiR1,vXiR2 can go back and forth between versions. However, Xi has a number of new features that are not backward compatible. Opening one of those in V10 will delete any new features.

IMHO the features in Xi make life for a report developer much easier. [thumbsup2]

Another reference/learning option would be the manuals at

I'd recommend the Peck books as well. I loved the Crystal 9 book so much that when i had to upgrade to XI, i make the corresponding Peck book a requirement. Also, The Help in Crystal is pretty good. It is great int he Formula Editor. you can click once on function, hit the Help icon, and you get a great description of how it works, an example or two, and the variations of the function.

You say:

It doesn't seem to work for me....is that only XI?

My apologies. That feature is not in 9, but it is in XI. I don't know about X, becuase i have not used that version. I still think that the Help is pretty good. I deploy web reports using another reporting software and the Help is completely worthless. Be sure to explore the Help indexes and what not if you ahve a question. I don't typically use Help indexes, but Cryustal is actually quite good for basic info.
