I have an Gateway P4 2.66Ghz w/768MB RAM (4 sticks) machine I bought last December. I tend to leave my computer on 24/7, with the last total up time before I shut it down to move some stuff around being almost 19 days. The machine runs according to my CoolMon/MBM setup at ~110 degrees CPU temp and ~105 degrees case temp. I'm looking for a nice CPU Proc fan/heat sink combo to bring those temps down, combined with a additional rear case fan (have opeing for one which is 5" in size).

What would you recomend? And are memory heat sinks/fans worth looking into also?

What do you have on there now? Did you use Arctic silver III? have you thought of water cooling?

The CPU temperature you have at present is commendably low already, so that stock heatsink/fan unit is working just fine (retail Intel fans are already very good). I would just recommend filling that 5 inch fan bay up with a nice, quiet, low spinning unit, which should shave a further 5-10 f off your already impressive temperature figures. Martin

Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

"Best" is in the eye of the beholder.

I've got a Zalman heatsink/fan which I love, keeps my Athlon ~10 degrees cooler than the stock AMD unit, while running at 1500rpm fan speed. However, it's huge in size and cost me $40.

On the other hand, I hear some people say they'll put up with the leaf-blower sound of a powerful 7,200rpm fan to get even lower temperatures for a cheap price.

Best is a full copper heatsink...However, you are looking at $$$. If you are going to spend the money look at a
Thermalright SLK-800A Copper Heatsink OR SLK-800U OR better yet a SLK-900U.

If you want to go a step further, look at a heatsink lapping kit. It can also help to drop a couple of degrees.
