I plan on buying a new motherboard and am wondering if anyone can give me some advice as to a motherboard that isn't real high in price but still a very good one? What I have now is a Asus A7N8X although it's the older revision, it's been a pretty good motherboard. I want one that will last me for at least a year or more and also would like it to have a good onboard audio. The memory I have and would like to stay pretty much with, without having to purchase extra right now is DDR 512MB PC2700 64x64 Dimm I have the Athlon XP Barton 2800+
Any suggestions?

i don't see a reason to upgrade your Mobo unless u're changing the rest of the components too...ie cpu, ram....for a XP 2800+ what u have is probably more than good enough......instead, save up for the new intel socket 775 series cpu and mobo, try the DDR2 and pci-x out for good.....=)

Is your motherboard faulty?
Any replacement based on an XP CPU for PC2700 will be little improvement over what you already have.
The Nforce2 ultra and the new Via KT800 are the top chipsets for the now old socket "A" CPU's (ATHLON/DURON) and as you already have a Nforce2 based motherboard (even if it's the non ultra version) there really is nothing that would be a significant advancement over what you already have.

Could just buy a soundcard if all you want is better sound.

Hard tellin what is going to happen in 12 months. The Athlon 64 processors are cheaper than the 400 FSB Athlon XP Processors. I dont see why AMD doesnt drop the prices on the 400FSB Athlon XP Processors.
