Hi,
I have both of the books mentioned above and highly recommend them.
I also have Flash4 Magic, and Flash4 Creative Web Animation.
They are all great books. Even though I've upgraded to Flash5,
the others are still helpful. Also, see
for her
CD's and videos on Flash and other graphics programs.
But Z-Best book of all for starting out (in my humble opinion)
is"Foundation Flash5" (check out
It's 600+ pages and only $30 list (no cd, but not very important).
But I just like the way they write and teach.....very down-to-earth,
and take you step-by-step through everything, including ActionScript.
Here's a sample of the tutorial I did from the book (
casestudy8xb.html). It's not complete yet, but is a good workout to learn the
major parts of the program. Now I can go back and edit everything to create
an entirely different look, based on what I learned.
Also, be sure to go through the lessons and tutorial that came with
the program (under "Help"

.
Hope that helped =)
