Best backup to DVD & bare metal restore ?!?

Hey,

I want to be able to back up three Windows XP Pro machines to a DVD burner on one of the machines. Is there any backup program that will let me do all of the following?

1) Backup files across a network to a DVD+-R drive on the remote computer
2) Bare metal restore the XP system using just a boot CD (no OS installation required) and the DVDs created in step one?

A few things to look at and see if you can adapt to your situation?

Anybody ever shared a CDRW drive and used an App. such as Nero 2 burn?

You may need a second partition for ASR to work properly.

Take a look at Acronis TrueImage. I'm pretty sure it will create an image to a network CD-RW.

Yes Acronis can with the help of UDP packet writer create an image straight onto a dvd.

Although I would create the image onto the machine with the writer and then manually do it as this gives you more controll and also you can do a quick check of the image on the hard drive before writing it to the disc to make sure its fully functional.

Acronis is a very good and rather cheap program that I have found to work very well. Have just started implementing it at work to minimize downtime on critical machines.
