BES 4.1 Ram requirements

it would probably be the same as for exchange which is 1.5 gbs minimum

Depends on how many users you plan to load onto the BES. From the Installation Overview doc on the RIM Support site:
500 users - P4 Processor - 2Ghz+, 1.5GB RAM
1000 users - P4 Dual Processor - 2GHz+, 2GB RAM
2000 users - P4 Dual Processor - 2.8GHz+ - 4GB RAM
(But I would never load 2000 users on a single BES..... madness!!)
