Hello

Please can anyone provide some bullet points about the benefits of updrading to CM media servers as opposed to staying G3 for as long as possible?

thanks for any ideas

Here's some off the top of my head:

* Processor power of S87xx
* Simplifies backups tremendously since you can just backup translations to a network drive.
* Simplifies upgrades. Haven't done a lot of them, but it definitely seems like much less hassle to upgrade. They just pop the HDD in (and do a couple of other things)

I'm sure there are many more, but it's early and I need caffeine.

In order to give you a good VS bad I need more info. Do you have G3's in MCC cabinets (Refrigerators)? Do you have a lot of legacy adjuncts (Voicemail,CMS,Call Accounting and IVR) that are connected via links and or data modules. How long do you have before your maint contract comes up for renewal? Do you have a need for VOIP?
The MCC cab's can be reused but the links will need to be moved to IP via the clan card.
The biggest reason to upgrade is the G3 line is at end of life. No more development and will come out of support at some time.
Ask your Avaya Rep or BP if there are any incentives on upgrading now. The rep or BP will know if the pricing structure is changing for the good or bad.

Hope this helps

see above.....Many justifications exist but the environment is key to making the case. If you can provide more specific information about your situation many here can add assistance.

thanks for your replies,

System is G3rR10 (3PNs in two MCCs)

there is voicemail via DPNSS and CDR via datamodule, both applications support TCP/IP connectivity

Your final upgrade will be to V11. The Voicemail and CDR will not change. However check with the Avaya BP or rep and see if there are any incentives to go CM now. Does your maint contract contain upgrades for life clause? If so the final upgrade is free. Going to CM will have to be done at sometime.

Hope this helps

4merlucent,

i'd like to say that you has no option for upgrade other than migrating to s8700/cm3. r11 is not sold for two years now, and r12 is closed already for all platforms except si.
