Beginning using cold fusion with sql queries.

I have create a cold fusion page that connects to a sql database a iserts information INCLUDING BLANK SPACES INTO THE DATABASE. I want to remove the blank spaces and have it check to se if the data for a specific user alread exist and if the user wants to update there iformation.

If the user wants to update the information I will need to a script that will choose the specific field that they would like to update and delete the old and replace the new for that user specifically.

Please help!!!
