Hello All
Set up in my office : 5 NT workstations and 1 recently brought W2000 server.
Before server was present all 5 workstations were in a workgroup. So my main aim is to create a DOMAIN called "MYSERVER" and connect all the 5 NT workstations
to the server and manage my workstations thru the single server.
I have no experience in installing or handling a 2000/NT server. This is what I did.
I installed 2000 server and it asked me to setup a active directory to set up a domain. First it asked me DNS name and I entered mycompany.test.com and netbios name and I entered "MYSERVER" and asked me to give locations for active directory and etcc....
After a Reboot I see in my W2K server at the user logon
username, password and log on to - MYSERVER .(this extra tab appeared after I set up my active directory. I guess I
have my domain running perfectly..hope so)
So I rushed to the NT workstation and went to Net Neighborhood and properties and changed my domain to "MYSERVER"
and it is saying "Unable to connect to domain controller for this domain. Have your administartor check your
computer account on the domain"
same thing with create a computer account name in the domain works and says welcome to "MYSERVER"
After rebooting my NT workstation 2 domains are listed
1 is MYSERVER and other is net bios name of the NT workstation.
Is this something wrong? How Do I get 2 domain listed when there is only one domain/w2k server in my network?
In my w2k server under computer management -> local users and groups I see a red mark saying "the computer is a
domain controller snap in cannot be used on a domain controller.domain a/cs are managed with active directory users and computers snap in."
My thinking is If I create a user a/c in my W2k server any user from any workstation shud be able to login..in to the domain
why I am not any able to create any user account.?
Sorry that I am asking basic questions..I need to set this whole thing and get it working ASAP.
I appreciate tek tips users input in this.
regards
