Having issues with backups - backup jobs hang after 1st tape in group is full(have been taking up 5-6 tapes). 'please insert blank media' - there are 5 blank media all waiting!
Apend is selected to the job, is there anything else I should be looking at? Forgive ignorace, new user..!
(Have HP5052 Tape library with 4 SDLT Drives, 50 slots..)

Any advice helpful..

Are you trying to append to a full tape?
or
Is the backup failing after filling the 1st tape and then asking for the seq. #2 tape or a blank tape?

side note - blank tape = tape that is not formated

In the Device Manager window does the inventory show the tapes as Blank Media?

Could be a database problem.

I am trying to append to tape, the tapes that are there are new, I have performed a quick erase plus on them.

Device manager displays the tape as Blank Media.

Not always gettting messages now, job seems to 'hang'..

Had to recreate DB with assistance from CA Tech the other day, so DB should be good..Using Brightstor DB, not sql..

Did you try the tape engine in debug mode ?? This is helpful for troubleshooting these kind of problems.
Did you also try to format a tape that gave trouble and then perform a testbackup to it ??

regards
