BCP Fatal error

I have just upgraded Sybase to V12.5.
My bcp jobs now fail if I specify the -b1000 parm.
I get this message ;
Fatal error: memory allocation failed.

(what memory is it talking about ?)

If I run it with -b10, it works.
Any ideas ?

check your log size... sp_helpdevice... you may need to increase it...

No it is not the log size.
I tried it on a large database with a large log.
The bcp does not even start.
It immediately gives the Fatal error message.
