I have a BCM 50 2.0. Want to upgrade to 3.0. Will the backup I have of 2.0 to converted when upgraded to 3.0?

I think you mean "can you restore 2.0 to 3.0 platform?"...dont think so.
Back up/image drive the 2.0 should your upgrade fail so you can revert back.
