in bcm release 3.5 it has enhanced answer dn applications. does anyone know if a message waiting indicator for this dn can be programmed on a t7316e.

If it is the same as the new enhanced answer DN's on a Norstar (which I assume it is) then no.
These new options (BASIC, ENHANCED, EXTENDED) just allow a little more flexiblity on when the answer DN rings - it has nothing to do with message waiting
