BCM 50 R1 upgrade

We want to upgrade an old BCM 50 R1 to R3 at least, wondering what is involved in this; is it just a software patch? Is the programming backed up able to be restored? Are the keycodes backed up able to be restored?

the keycodes are not saved on the backup!i believe there are 3 steps to the upgrade.step 1 doesn't take long. step 2 takes alittle over an hour (the system is down during this process) step 3 i think is updating voicemail prompts. oh. there is 1 more step, you have to save the upgrade to the actual controller. if you don't and you do a level 2 reset, the controller will defaut back to R1. i think you need key code for upgrade from R1 to R3
