Batch inserts from a text file?

Hi,
I am a rookie with SQL Server so bear with me. I am trying to insert rows into a table using a formatted text file as input. I would prefer not to used the Import Wizard and just write the SQL. Can anybody tell me what syntax I should be using? Thanks in advance.
