batch file to update a signature

hi all not sure if I have the right group but hopefully someone will tell me.

If a .bat file is run

username=ddalton
where bat file is updating to

userprofile: C:\documents&settings\daltond

so obviously no files were updated because of the name.

is there a line we can add into the batch file that says if
something like if username & userprofile are not equal use userprofile.

I am probably way off track but hopefully someone can put me in the right direction
