I do the basic IMAC activity on a Meridian 1 switch. The powers that be have decided to add intercom paging and have begun installing speakers throughout the building. Anyone who was truly savvy on the switch is long gone and I am left to set it up. Without too much detail, what are the basic needs on the switch to set off in the right direction?

If you are installing speakers, then someone has or will install a paging amplifier. The connection between a Meridian 1 and a Paging Amp is is a trunk.

-Trunk TYPE PAG is there is only one "all-call" page zone.
-Trunk TYPE WAT if there are multiple paging zones (where there would be a zone control unit that accepts dial digits to select the zone)

So, you need to find an unused trunk TN - then create a Route in LD16 - the ACCD prompt will be the number you dial to page, then build the trunk TN in LD14

Thanks,
I'll see where this leads me.

You could also use an analog port and connect a station level paging unit to it.

Little bit easier than configuring a trunk on an EXUT and building a route.

And it works just as well.

I can provide more detail if you need it.

I'll agree to some point. However you can't restrict access to station level paging and you can't set a timed force disconnect at the PBX with station TN paging.

Station level paging units have timed disconnect settings on the units themselves (at least the valcom's that I use does). But you are correct regarding access restriction. Where I work paging is unrestricted completed. Its very rare that anyone would use a fax machine and happen to misdial 4 digits so badly that we would have to restrict.

I do run both types in my buildings. I use trunk level in the main building where the PBX and I reside. I use station level for my remote buildings that are connected via Fiber and piped across a SIP trunk connected to an Analog Audio Codes box. Works well in that environment.
