Hi,

Why do we call switches such as 4006 or 5000 series as
Catalyst switches.

Because that is the actual model name of the switches. Cisco decided to call them Catalyst, therefore we call them Catalyst.

Hi,

Cisco bought out a company that made the "Catalyst" switches. They took the old "set" based command switches and stamped their name on them.

B.T.Y that's why most "catalyst" switches only run dot1q trunking (standards based) and not ISL.
