Not being an admin type, I have a very basic question:
I've got a server 2003 setup that is not currently being backed up by my IT department (office politics, don't ask...). Anyway, I began to get nervous about not having a backup of the system so I found the backup utility and am scheduling a nightly backup to another storage medium.
My question is: Most of the "critical" data is being kept in Sharepoint (on MSDE backend). The help section of the backup section recommends using the SQL specific backup procedures for SQL type data. Can someone explain to me why this necessary, since I'd have to figure out how to automate an MSDE backup to secure my sharepoint data? Is this worth it, or can I restore from my volume shallow copy in case of emergancy?
Thanks in advance,
B.J.
