Excuse my ignorance, I inherited this position and am slowing learning. We have a definity switch which is programed to automatically dial a number when a 4 digit extension is dialed. For example, from a phone connected to the switch I dial 1234, it is my understanding that the switch is set up to automatically recognize that that extension 1234 is at another branch location, it then dials the full 10 digit number, for example it appends 1-999-999 to the 1234. Our switches are not linked and do not know about each other. Recently we had one location that has had an area code change and as a result this 4-digit dialing no longer works. My question is what is this automatic addition called and where would it be changed within the switch? I have spent all morning searching avaya's website but I don't think I even know what I am looking for because I am not certain I know the nomenclature of what exactly the switch is doing. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Hi
First you should check dial plan by command display dial-plan
I think you will see that if first digit is "1" you have 4-digits extension (like 1234).
Also, check Uniform Dial Plan field (on the same page) and if it is 4-digits then
make command list udp to see the 1xxx extensions or something like that.
Uniform Dial Plan(UDP) - may be is the target of your search because it is dialing method
for remote extensions from local switch. When user dials udp-extension Definity send this call
to AAR table.

If your extension is not from UDP list try to make list extension-type 1234. What it will show?

Hi,

It may well be in the ARS (Automatic Route Selection) or the AAR table. So the command would be change aar/ars analysis 1234, this will give you the route pattern. You would then have to look in the route pattern (change route-pattern x) to find the inserted digits - this is where you would need to amend the area code.

Hope this helps,

Chris

We do see the 1xxx, it is associate with udp code 600. Is this where I would change the number? How do I access that udp code to change the entries in it? Thanks for your help.

Armo2,
You were right on, it was the route-pattern. Thanks for your help, I owe you a drink!

Ok, UDP Code 600 is associated with AAR Code 600 - so if you "change aar analysis 600" and note the route pattern. Next "change route pattern x" - you will see " no. del digits", that should be 3 to delete the AAR Code (600). In the inserted digits section, that should give you the digits that need to be ammended.
