Basic Auth w/ AD

Hello,
Is it possible for a W2k server in a workgroup to use Basic authentication against an Active directory domain?

E.g.
I have a Windows 2000 server machine in a workgroup called wg1, and a Windows 2000 server with active directory in a domain called ad1.

Is it possible for me to create a web site in IIS on the machine in wg1 that uses basic authentication against the domain ad1?

I've tried the above, setting the default domain of the basic authentication to ad1, but it doesn't seem to work.
